What are your favorite snorkeling islands in Fiji? I’ve been there but the reef was quite a distance from the resort I stayed at. It took around 40 minutes to swim to it. I would like some recommendations of islands with reefs closer to the resort.
Thank you for any advice.

I was snorkeling in Fiji a few years ago and found a nice little island in the Yasawa chain called Manta Ray Island. Great snorkeling is right off the beach where I had the opportunity to see large octopus mating, white tip sharks and many other fish and corals. It was a low impact, one resort island with good food and friendly people. You also may have an opportunity to swim with the Manta Rays as they are regularly spotted near by. The boat trip to the islands is beautiful as well.
Good luck.

Agree that the snorkeling right off the beach at Manta Ray in the Yasawas in fabulous. Also heard Taveuni is great, but haven’t been there yet.
Alan and Pat From New Zealand – Feb 5, 2019 – Snorkeling in Yasawas
A few years back we went to a resort called Botaira which is not far from the Manta Ray Resort and found it great. The resort was fairly rustic and the snorkeling was great. It even had a concrete underwater path to enter the water. For a couple of older snorkelers this made it easier. Great fish life and turtles.
We like to go to the more remote resorts like this and enjoy the food and wine as well.
We were interested in swimming with Manta Rays and the Fiji boys from the Manta Ray Resort were visiting our resort. We asked them could they take us. They said no, “Manta Rays there tomorrow.” We heard them telling someone else the same thing the next day!

We have been to Navini Resort on Navini Island in Fiji twice. It is amazing. Great snorkeling right off the island plus special boat trips to see other areas. Wonderful staff and owners.

Anywhere in the Yasawa or Mamanuca island chains will do. My wife and I stayed at Vomo Island Resort and Yasawa Island Resort. Both have excellent snorkeling right off either resort. My wife was a novice at Vomo and had real fun. Yasawa Island Resort will boat you out to different beaches at no extra charge. Both resorts are expensive though.
Nicole & Galen – Nov 21, 2020 – More Resort Island Ideas
There are a couple visitor stories with more resort island ideas on the site. The two Nancys stayed at the Octopus Resort on Waya Island in the Yasawas. Ray stayed at the Sheraton on Tokoriki Island in the Mamanuca Islands.
