I would like to share my experience snorkeling in Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh Egypt. Both places are on the east coast of the Sinai Peninsula. During October and November 2025 we did a follow-up snorkeling trip to the Red Sea. In 2023 we snorkeled Fort Arabesque Resort near Hurghada and Marsa Shagra Village near Marsa Alam.
My Report About Snorkeling in Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh Egypt
We started in the Dahab area staying in two different places. Then we moved on to Sharm El Sheikh where we stayed at two more places. We experienced many days and many hours of snorkeling.
Happy Life Village Outside of Dahab
We spent four days snorkeling at Happy Life Village located in the Wadi Qani area outside of Dahab. The snorkeling was good but the coral life was damaged in some areas and water clarity was sometimes not that great. We were a team of two who snorkeled morning and afternoon spending approximately six hours each in the water every day. We saw and photographed a total of 104 fish species of which I saw five lifers.
Airbnb on Assala Beach in Dahab
From Happy Village, we moved to Dahab and stayed in an Airbnb on Assala Beach. We had five days of snorkeling of which most was directly in front of our Airbnb, one morning at the Blue Hole and two snorkels at the Eel Garden. We were three snorkelers and we probably averaged about four hours snorkeling per person per day. All the snorkeling spots were fantastic and it was especially refreshing to be able to snorkel straight from our accommodation without any constraints of where we could go.
Wind was a problem but one must remember that Dahab is world famous for kite and wind surfing. Most days we could only snorkel in front of the reef but one day when the water was exceptionally calm, we crossed the reef and this area was very good.
The Blue Hole was excellent as we went very early, snorkeled the length of the snorkel trail and left before it became too crowded with divers.
We did not get to explore all the snorkeling spots in Dahab and it is certainly on our list to go and visit again. Dahab was a great destination as one was not restrained by being in a resort and there was lots to do and explore for the non-snorkelers in our group. We saw a 112 fish species of which seven species were lifers.
Jaz Fanara Resort (Faraana Bay – Ras Om El Sid) near Sharm El Sheikh
We had six days of snorkeling staying at the Jaz Fanara Resort. One of those days included a visit to the Ras Mohammed National Park. The snorkeling was excellent although the visibility at the Ras Mohammed National Park was not great. The high number of people in the water accessing from both the beach as well as from tourist boats were problematic but if one is prepared to swim far and explore, one can get away from it all and enjoy the fantastic corals and scenery. I spent on average six hours of snorkeling per day resulting in a total of 131 fish species photographed (five lifers).
Sunrise Remal Resort (Ras Nasrani and Ras Bob Snorkeling Sites) in Sharm El Sheikh
The short stay of four nights at the Sunrise Remal Resort was a last minute add-on to our visit and ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed at Sunrise Remal Resort which was not on the beach, but about 200 meters away with a shuttle every 10 minutes.
The snorkeling was great – just watch out for the currents. I snorkeled about two kilometers down the reef going with the current and luckily, when I came back the current changed so I went with it again. During three days of snorkeling, averaging about seven hours a day, I saw and photographed 108 species of which two were lifers.
