  1. I have snorkeled in Puerto Morelos, and because it is a national park, you can only go out to the reef with a guide and are required to wear a life jacket. There were a lot of fish for sure and other sea life, but I found it frustrating because I love to dive down and get close to everything which wasn’t possible. And at busy times, there can be a lot of people out there.

    I have actually seen some really cool things shore snorkeling there, but it’s reef adjacent, so it’s not constant fish. I saw huge Atlantic spade fish, very large permit fish, turtles, barracuda and all kinds of other fish – you just have to be out for a while with eyes open!

    It is a fun town, but I haven’t been there in several years because of the sargassum. They get it pretty bad there.
