We are flying into the Cancun area for 10 days and are looking for specific suggestions on good snorkeling spots in the eastern Yucatan Peninsula Mexico area, like Cancun, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, and Cozumel.

Thanks!

Nicole and Galen – Dec 21, 2018 – Cozumel

Hi Kathleen, there are some suggestions for snorkeling spots in Cozumel on these visitor pages.

Hopefully you will get some more answers from folks who have snorkeled the area.

Steve N – Dec 22, 2018 – Snorkeling with Turtles

You can go snorkeling with turtles in Akumal on the Yucatan Peninsula and Yal Ku Lagoon in Akumal too.

Trina – Dec 22, 2018 – Snorkel Akumal for Turtles

If you want to snorkel with turtles, Akumal Bay is the place! There is also a lagoon nearby called Yal Ku, which has a lot of sea life and interesting underwater topography.

Cindy Wakefield – Jan 6, 2019 – Yal Ku in Akumal

Yal Ku Bay in Akumal was lovely, and the numerous freshwater cenotes along the peninsula are very fun and interesting, especially Dos Ojos. (Highly recommend the Monkey Sanctuary too, if you want a dry land break.)

Tom Rogers – Jan 7, 2019 – Yucatan Snorkeling

Akumal Bay is a good clear place to snorkel with coral and canon in the water. Places to snorkel that charge a fee are Yal Ku Lagoon and Xel-Ha Park. All three are approximately 100-125 km south of Cancun.

Michel – Jan 8, 2019 – Changes at Akumal Bay & Yal Ku

Although both Akumal Bay and Yal Ku are both good snorkeling spots they are not what they once were due to growing popularity over the last couple of years. I’ve seen great changes since I started going there 10 years ago. I would highly recommend going as early as possible particularly to Yal Ku. They started having tour buses go there in the last few years and a lot of the fish no longer swim freely in the bigger crowds.
