Good Jamaica Snorkeling Resort?

By Susan and Micheal Gobbo – (New Jersey)
Can anyone recommend a resort in Jamaica with good snorkeling from the resort beach or nearby? I realize it is not an ideal snorkeling destination, but we are going for business and we’re hoping to spend time snorkeling.

My research online has suggested the following resorts as possibilities. Any feedback about them?
– Jewel Paradise Cove
– Jewel Runaway Bay
– Sunscape Splash Montego Bay
– Royal Decameron Montego Beach
– Secrets St James Montego Bay
– ClubHotel Riu Ocho Rios

Thank you.

If you want isolation, and are a good swimmer, stay at the Rhodes Hall Plantation. We honeymooned there April 2017. Very remote, quiet, and the most spectacular, healthy reef a good swim from shore. First two days was like jumping in a large aquarium, then the weather changed.

Don’t go here for the all-you-can-eat buffet or club scene, as there is none. Meal plan available.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort in January 2017. Good place for a first timer as they have an island and little fish gather near the rocks along the outside edge of the island. It’s only chest deep so not scary for kids. They had a rope and seemed to want you to stay in the shallow area within the rope. We took a boat excursion into Montego Bay and the reef was very far down and just looked like a brown lump to me. Very few fish.

We stayed at the Sunscape Splash twice (once under a different name), and one of the reasons we loved it was the fantastic snorkeling right off shore. My wife and I have been to resorts in quite a few places in the Caribbean, and the shore snorkeling there was the best of them all.
