Has anyone used the Canon EOS R100 with housing for snorkeling? What do you think?
I am tired of cameras breaking. I have had the Nikon 1aw1 and the Nikon Aw100 underwater cameras and they broke. I’ve also had the Canon Powershot D10. That was my favorite because it lasted the longest and had the best picture quality.
Currently I am using the Olympus TG-6 and am not thrilled with the picture quality. I’m debating about getting a housing for the TG-6, or getting an action camera.
But I am also considering getting a new system like the Canon EOS R100 with RF-S18-45mm lens kit and the underwater housing. I would appreciate any insight into this camera and housing for snorkeling photography.
Thank you.
After going thru several generations of TG cameras, all if which eventually leaked, and then the Canon S90 in the Canon housing. We recently upgraded before our current trip.
I looked at the R100 and several of the other APS-C sensor cameras, but found their housings were much larger than I wanted to deal with, transport and hand hold. Something to consider depending on your use model.
Micro 4/3 looked great, but most of the bodies were released some years ago and have slower focusing.
The compact camera market has been almost eliminated due to cell phones. Cameras like GX7 & RX100 are hard to find and expensive, even on the used market.
We chose the Sony ZV-1 and Sea Frogs housing. The ZV-1 has a 1″ sensor. It’s positioned as being for video content creators, but has all the photo features you need, including underwater auto & custom white balance options. F1.8 lens and fast focusing.
We’re currently 2 weeks into a 6 week Indonesia snorkeling trip and so far we really like it.
