I am going to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands during January 2019. Is there any worthwhile snorkeling on any of the islands – land based or going by boat?
Thank you.

I’ve been to Fuerteventura and while the beaches are lovely there really isn’t much to see in terms of snorkeling as there is no coral. However, someone who knows the island better than I do may have found some decent spots where fish feed from algae growth on rocks, as they do on Lanzarote. Lanzarote is a short hop from Fuerteventura and its volcanic beaches provide rocky coves where you can see fish, but again, due to the lack of coral, you won’t see many colorful fish, mostly white ones, except for the sergeant majors.

I thoroughly enjoyed snorkeling there and for a European site the fish diversity isn’t bad at all. I saw 25 species of fish in just three snorkel sessions. Isla de Lobos was especially nice.
