Has Anyone Snorkeled in Cebu Philippines?

By Susan – (Osprey, FL USA)
I am looking for some advice and guidance on snorkeling in Cebu, Philippines. We are headed there to snorkel for one week as part of a larger trip.

It has been very hard for me to get a full understanding of the places we want to be on Cebu so if anyone has any info and or guidance they can offer I would appreciate it.

I’ve just returned from two weeks in Cebu. I snorkeled in Moalboal, Oslob, Bantayan Island, Camotes Island. Camotes was beautiful and my favorite. The whale sharks are a must see in Oslob. Camotes is a bit of travel. I took a taxi from Cebu City to Danao, then a ferry.

I’ve yet to find a place to equal El Nido, Palawan, with coral and sea life.

When I was on Palawan last month (NOT good snorkeling where I was) a couple I met on a snorkel boat told me they’d had wonderful snorkeling in Moalboal, best ever they said, lots of sardines.

However I was told by another person that the whole island of Cebu is so full of garbage that they don’t like to go in the water there.

I have NOT been to Cebu.

I recently returned from snorkeling in Moalboal and would rate it very highly for the close proximity to shore to see lots of turtles and the amazing sardine run. I have snorkeled all over the Philippines over the past 10 years and the sardine run would rate in the top ten for snorkeling experiences.

The water clarity was good considering it was windy for the three days I was snorkeling there. There were abundant fish varieties, good coral formations and colors and many nudibranchs to be seen.

Easy to get to on four hour bus ride from south bus terminal in Cebu City.

Oslob is a must to swim with the whale sharks. Bantanyan had trash and human feces floating in the water. Comotes is great, again stay away from any motels, etc. to avoid sewage; always wise anywhere. Moalboal was just OK in my opinion. Coron and El Nido, Palawan are great snorkeling places. I liked Apo Island also for turtles.
