Has anyone snorkeled from The Remote Resort in Fiji? I was wondering if anyone out there has been there and has experienced snorkeling the Rainbow Reef. I would love some insights from fellow travelers who prioritize snorkeling. I am considering going for my 50th birthday June 2026. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi Abigail, my husband and I spent 9 days at the Remote Resort in November 2023. It was amazing. Due to it being very windy while we were there, and me getting nauseous on longer, choppy boat rides, I only snorkeled the Rainbow Reef for one day. It was very good, but the Remote Resort also offers a lot of trips to different patch and fringing reefs that are only 10 or 15 minutes from the resort and those were absolutely amazing.
My husband was there for diving, but also joined me on a lot of the snorkeling trips, because they were so good. I did not see a lot of large creatures (too much fishing by the local villages), but the multitudes of colorful soft and hard corals with abundant smaller fish made up for it.
The Remote Resort in itself is an amazing experience – incredible location and wonderful people and service.
My husband and I were there December 2023 and loved The Remote Resort. We took a boat to the Rainbow Reef and several other snorkel spots nearby, but loved just snorkeling right in front of the resort. The coral and abundance of fish is insane. The service and food were also wonderful!
We were at the Remote Island Resort in Fiji three weeks ago. It is a great place for avid snorkelers. The house reef is very good and there is a short boat trip to two places close-by that had some excellent snorkeling. Due to weather problems, we didn’t get out to the Rainbow Reef, however, other guests said it was really nice. They also enjoyed the manta ray trips.
We were there for a week in 2019 and returning for another week next month, if that tells you anything! Rainbow Reef was fabulous but as with other commenters, we only went there one day. Here is a link to some pics from that trip, if you’re interested. (First half at Remote Resort, second half at Navini, which was also terrific.)
Beyond the snorkeling, the Remote Resort remains the most intimate, personal, friendly, special, [several additional positive adjectives] stay we have had anywhere in the world. Just a fabulous experience all around. Hopefully it lives up to our memories upon our return!
Doug, your pictures are stunning! What camera setup did you use, if you don’t mind my asking? I know the trip was a few years back, so your setup may have changed since then…
Sorry for the late reply! Still the same camera – Canon G7X, though I did get a new Fantasea housing last year.
Our return trip to Fiji last month was terrific. Remote Resort was still amazing, though not as magical as our first stay. We did finally have an extremely calm day and spent 3 straight hours exploring incredible the house reef but it was quite windy several others so we skipped the manta snorkel and one other.
Be aware, they typically only schedule one trip to Rainbow Reef each week – on Saturdays as of last month. You can book a private trip (or see if other guests will join to split the expense) but most of their regular trips are to closer sites like Sau Bay and Kioa Island.
Fabulous photos! Thanks for sharing.
Oh guys, thank you sooo much for your responses! This sounds like the perfect place to celebrate my 50th. And I’m glad I booked a long stay so I can hopefully get to the Rainbow Reef at least once.
Hi, we spent our honeymoon at The Remote Resort. It was just perfect. I spent hours on the house reef and we did the full experience package. Rainbow Reef is beautiful but does have some current. They also took us to Christmas Tree Reef which was full of thousands of Christmas tree worms and a soft coral reef which was spectacular. We went in June and weather was perfect. I have a post on Facebook on the Snorkeling Travel Friends page; just search Elizabeth Hardaker.
