I am looking for suggestions on where and how to snorkel in Madagascar or the Seychelles? I am thinking about going for a visit in the spring of 2016.

Snorkeling In Madagascar
by: Moe Fair

Hi there, we are avid snorkelers and while in Madagascar in 2011, we found a few spots on the north side (Nosy Be). We did a charter "dhow" (we were very lucky to have only 5 passengers in total -- we saw other dhows very overcrowded with tourists) with Madagascar Island Safaris and stayed at that company's beach side camps in their very rustic huts. The dhow safari is not for everyone. You don't want to (ever) go below the deck.

We mostly snorkeled off the beaches -- visibility was okay to see some fish but coral is almost all dead and colorless. One marine park area (Tanikely?) was fantastic with tons of barracudas and many sea turtles.

I strongly suggest avoiding the large new hotels on the beach and find one of the smaller guesthouses on TripAdvisor.

Water is warm, culture is fascinating, food is great, lemurs! Madagascar is an incredible country that could use our dollars.
