Solution To Above Water Pictures Ruined By Water Drops

Sometimes you want to take pictures above water while snorkeling with your camera in its waterproof housing. You may be taking pictures of the boat or the shore, or shots half in and half out of the water. But you will have water drops on the lens that will not look good in the pictures.

To wipe off water drops use a small chamois cloth. I cut a 3" x 3" square from a chamois (real or synthetic), punched a hole and attached it to the camera housing with a nylon string.

The chamois can be rung out and used to wipe down the lens whenever you want to take an over water shot. It's useful especially for split shots.

Just remember to keep it out of the lens field of view when shooting.

Good Idea
by: Galen & Nicole

When snorkeling we often take pictures in just these situations, and water drops on the front of the housing lens nearly always blemish the results.

We sometimes try to quickly rinse the housing and then shake it to get rid of drops. But it does not work great. So on our next trip we will give your idea a shot. Thanks.

Take picture within 1 second to prevent water drops
by: Kate

A suggestion that a professional underwater photographer told me, which is worth a try, is to take the picture within 1 second of taking it out of the water, before the droplets have a chance to form.
