Snorkeling Maui From SUP or Kayak for Whales?

(Michigan)

Can anyone share experiences about using a SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) or kayak for snorkeling on your own in search of whales during calving season off Maui?

Thank you.

SUP and Humpback Whales

Follow federal regulations that prohibit approaching (by any means) within 100 yards (90 m) when on or in the water.

In the Maui channel where most humpbacks are sighted, there can be a lot of boat traffic, current, swells and wind, especially in the afternoon. They typically are in very deep water, so it would be a long paddle.
