Recent Coral Health Update for Belize?

by Emily dunham

Has anyone been snorkeling in Belize recently? This is March 2018. Can you tell me what the coral health is like? Have there been any recent bleaching events there?

We were in Belize, Ambergris Cay June 2017. The coral was fine and plentiful- lettuce, fan, fire and antler coral. Took a boat out 5 or 6 times with Tuff-e-nuff tours (highly recommend them) saw a Caribbean Manatee twice!! Saw lots of nurse sharks, rays, some turtle, French angel, blue tang. Also lots of lion fish in shallow water which was unusual in my experience, usually in deeper waters.

We have a trip in early April 2018 and will be going to Hol Chan, Shark Alley, Blue Hole, Lighthouse Atoll, and Glovers Atoll. I will update this post on our return with what we see!
