We are thrilled to be able to announce another opportunity for you to join a snorkeling group to Misool Eco Resort in Raja Ampat. This ten day trip is a once in a lifetime experience.
Located within the famed Coral Triangle in Indonesia, Raja Ampat has the most diverse and healthy reefs in the world. And the crown jewel of the area is the very remote Misool Eco Resort. This private reserve is focused on conservation and sits in the middle of a 500 square mile Marine Protected Area and No Take Zone. Many of the experts we know consider Misool to be the best of the best. And in fact we are headed there ourselves in February of 2020.
Misool's reefs are absolutely brimming with life. Thanks to their conservation efforts it is one of the rare places where sea life is not only flourishing, but has increased in health and diversity in recent years. Right off the docks you can see schools of trevally and Bumphead Parrotfish. Green turtles and walking sharks are common.
“There is greater biodiversity — that is to say, a larger number and greater diversity of fish, coral, and mollusks on these reefs than anywhere on earth. A single football field-sized patch of Misool’s reefs has nearly five times the number of coral species as the entire Caribbean Sea.” - Marine biologist Dr Mark Erdmann
Raja Ampat, Indonesia is located in the heart of the region known as the Coral Triangle. And Misool island is in a very remote southern section of Raja Ampat.
For this trip you will fly into Jakarta, where you will meet up with your group, stay the night, and recuperate from your long flight. The next day your group will fly to Sorong, where you will be transferred by vehicle and then high speed boat to Misool Eco Resort. After seven nights there, you will be transferred back to Sorong for one more night there before catching your last flight out to Jakarta.
This adventure will not lack for snorkeling variety, or time in the water!
Unlimited Beach Snorkeling
Because you are staying at Misool Eco Resort you will have the opportunity to snorkel right from the beaches, to your heart's content. As you can see in the picture below there is a north and a south lagoon to snorkel.
Two Snorkel Boat Trips Each Day
For each of six days, there will be two boat trip adventures taking your snorkeling only groups out to a variety of neighboring shallow reefs and walls that are as spectacular as the house reef.
You will also have the opportunity to do some guided night snorkeling at the resort.
In a world of declining reef health, Raja Ampat is proving resilient and lush with life. You will be snorkeling in the epicenter of marine life, in numbers and varieties that are astounding, not only for fish life, but a huge variety of hard corals and very colorful soft corals.
The resort was built entirely with reclaimed wood using their own saw mills on site. You will be staying in one of eight luxurious Water Cottages on stilts in the North Lagoon.
All rooms have air conditioning, open air private bathrooms with hot water, and a veranda with lounges or hammocks. The water cottages have steps into the sea.
All food is included, and served at the beach-front restaurant. You can expect Asian and Western cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh, local, organic produce and fish line-caught outside their no-take zone. They can accommodate dietary needs and restrictions with advance notice. There are four meals served a day (second breakfast anyone?), plus snacks, and afternoon tea. Alcohol is an extra cost item, and pork is not served.
The resort also has a dive center that offers wet and dry areas. The wet area has rinse tanks and space for cameras. The dry area is wonderful for presentations and discussions.
You may also choose to partake in the resort's wellness spa treatments at The Lookout or in your own room. They offer massage and beauty treatments that feature their signature products, created every morning in their kitchen.
The more we learn about Misool Eco Resort and their mission to protect the reefs and the communities in the area, the more impressed and happy we are to support their efforts.
We highly recommend you watch this video for a better sense of the great work Misool is doing.

Ben (pictured with Nicole) is our friend and snorkeling trips partner. He and his team are based in the U.K. and have around twenty years of experience guiding in Asia and beyond. He has been running his own business since 2010 that used to be primarily diving. He started offering snorkeling specific trips because he was aware that snorkelers often get the short end of the stick when thrown in with divers. He and his team love the freedom and low stress of snorkeling, and are very aware of the different needs of snorkelers versus divers, in terms of the reef depth, and calm surface conditions needed.
experience going on one of his snorkeling trips we found it very well
organized, the guides were fantastic and very helpful, and the underwater experiences were exceptional. Snorkeling
groups really get the benefit of all of Ben and his guides' years of
experience in the water, and with different resorts and liveaboards.
of his trips are small groups of 12-18 guests, or with a similar ratio
of snorkelers to guides. And for where they visit, and how packed they
are with experiences, they are affordable.
His company is licensed and insured. They have never cancelled a trip, and all funds are held in a trust until the trip is completed giving you 100% financial security if they or any of their suppliers go out of business before the trip happens.
