Has Anyone Snorkeled in Nusa Lembongan, Bali?

by Serge & Mona

We are in Bali. We are planning to go to Nusa Lembongan hoping to snorkel with Manta Rays. Any snorkeling tips for this island? Places to stay, excursions, etc.? We will also be going to Menjangan Island in 10 days.

After a Small Storm
by: Camcam52

I was at Nusa Lembongan, Bali for three days of snorkeling. The day before I arrived there was a small storm. I booked a snorkel trip to see the mantas.

First, the mantas are usually seen in a little bay, which by the time my boat arrived, there were nine other boats there. After I jumped in, I was immediately taken back by the strong yellow hue of the water. Within seconds, I was covered in floating plastic including my mask. There were mantas no more than 15 feet away from me yet I could barely see them. The pollution was heartbreaking. I have spoken to others who have had an amazing snorkel with the mantas at Nusa Lembongan.

While at a resort on the beach, I saw a few store owners, early in the morning, dig holes in the sand and bury their garbage.

Though the snorkeling was bad for me, this trip raised my consciousnesses regarding the use of plastics and our planet.

Forget It

Lots of boaters, lots of garbage in the water, brownish yellow color of water. I would never go back.

Any excursion operator you would recommend? Did you snorkel elsewhere in Nusa Lembongan? Where did you stay?

Thank you.

Great Snorkeling
by: Karen

We were there two years ago. Mushroom Bay is a handy area to stay in. There are lots of boats willing to take you out to the best sights. Ask for Manta Point, Gamut Bay, and Crystal Bay. We went to all three on one snorkeling boat. Yes there was floating plastic bags. You will need to go early.

Renting a scooter was the best way to see the island. We went to the top of Lembongan.

We also took a boat to what they call the wall. Very cool! It’s a drift snorkel. The boat will follow you and pick you up at the other end.

Lembongan was one of our favorite places to go!

We also went to Amed on the north coast of Bali. We stayed at Coral View Villas because the snorkeling right out front was great! There are other cheaper places to stay right there, but go snorkeling out front of Coral View.

Menjangan Island was definitely worth going to.

FYI lots of mosquitoes in the north!

Happy snorkeling!
