I just got back home from snorkeling off the rocks near Ke'ei Beach on the Big Island, Hawaii. We really liked this spot - fun entry off rocks into deep water, several arches and caves, and a wonderful mix of environments, from canyons and crevices to dappled sunlight on "fields" of coral. We'll definitely be back to explore further along the coast and offshore.
If you'd like to try this for yourself, take the road down to Kealakekua Bay and turn left at the boat ramp. Continue until the road leaves the village. There's a private dirt road on the right, then another dirt road on the right just before the transfer station. That's the one you want. We just parked up on the rocks at what looked like a good spot where the (bumpy!) road went into trees, but you could also carry on to the beach at Ke'ei itself.
As a bonus, this (the paved road out of the village, not the dirt side road), leads to Two Step and Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, for even more great underwater fun. Definitely check the surf report before heading out - getting out of the water when the surf's up would *not* be enjoyable...
