Here is a great opportunity to spend two weeks exploring the outstanding underwater world of Fiji, but also to enjoy two beautiful resorts, and the culture and landscapes of these stunning South Pacific Islands. You will be snorkeling the Bligh Water and the Great Astrolabe Barrier Reef, two of the largest and unspoiled centers of marine life in the world.
Not only will you see beautiful soft and hard coral reefs full of tropical fish, but Fiji also has lots of turtles, rays, and sharks.
Best yet, you could be in the water in just a few months!
Our partner and friend Ben and his team are running this trip. Based in the U.K., they run amazing group snorkel trips abroad, and have a great appreciation for the underwater world.
This small group Fiji snorkeling trip (15 snorkelers + guide) is resort based. Most of the snorkeling is accessed by dedicated snorkeling boats from the resorts, and your down time can be spent on beautiful beaches or relaxing in your own private spacious room.
The Fiji islands are located in the South Pacific, west of Australia, and south of Samoa. The Republic of Fiji consists of 330 islands.
You will book your international flight to bring you to Nadi International Airport (NAN) on the island of Viti Levu, the largest island in the Fiji chain. And Kadavu Island is the fourth largest island in Fiji, just a short domestic flight from that same airport.
Once you arrive in Nadi, a member of the Volivoli Resort team will greet you and drive you to the resort, which is 2.5 hours away.
After six nights at Volivoli, you will be driven back to Nadi, enjoying a tour of the towns and villages and markets on the way. Then you will spend one night at the Tanoa International Hotel.
The following morning your group will board a short 40 minute flight to Kadavu Island. The Matava Resort boat will pick your group up for a water transfer to the resort.
After seven nights at Matava Resort, you will boat transfer back to Kadavu airport for your flight back to Nadi Airport, where your tour ends and you catch your flight back home.
What a treat, a six night stay at this four star beach resort, your base of enjoyment and leisure between snorkeling excursions. Volivoli is located on the northern tip of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island.
From the resort you will be taken out for five days of snorkeling sessions in a comfortable snorkel boat. The boat has shade, big easy to climb ladders in and out of the water, toilets, snacks, and lunch. You will have a guide in the water from the resort, one of Ben's guides will also be there, and if you ever get tired you can get back on the boat.
And if you don't get your fill of snorkeling, there is also a house reef you can snorkel anytime!
Fiji is known as the soft coral capital of the world. Some of the snorkel spots you visit will be in the famous area known as the Bligh Water, which is northeast of the resort. Besides the beautiful soft and hard coral reefs full of colorful small reef fish, Fiji hosts many larger sea animals, like turtles, sharks, and lots of rays.
What Is the Volivoli Beach Resort Like?
You will have six nights at the resort, and will be staying in their Premium Ocean View Villas, which are very spacious, and have A/C, ceiling fans, and large bathrooms. Your own private balcony overlooks the sea.
The resort has two restaurants, with many fresh local fish and organic options, with Fijian specialties influenced by India and other Asian neighbors. And they also offer international favorites. And they can accommodation dietary restrictions. All meals are included.
After a short flight to Kadavu Island, you will be transferred by boat to the Matava Eco-Resort for seven more nights. The island has just one town and a handful of roads which makes it the perfect base to relax and explore unspoiled landscapes and uncrowded snorkel spots.
Kadavu Island is
surrounded by the Great Astrolabe Reef, which is one of the largest
barrier reefs in the world. Five days with two boat trips per day is included in your Fiji snorkeling trip. The sites range from tranquil coral gardens to
more adventurous snorkel spots in the Barrier Reef Passageways where you
can see white-tip and grey reef sharks, schooling jacks, barracuda,
surgeonfish, and giant groupers. There are good opportunities for
snorkeling with manta rays at Manta Reef.
Topside there are rainforest treks, bird watching, and sea kayak trips to enjoy.
What Is the Resort Like?
Matava is a true eco-resort deriving its power and hot water from solar energy. An extensive organic farm supplies the restaurant daily with fresh fruit and vegetables and even honey from the garden apiary.
Your group will be staying seven nights in one of 10 Ocean View Bures that are within a few steps of the ocean and are made in traditional thatched Fijian style and finished with polished timber floors. All the bures have private bathrooms, air conditioning, fans, hot water, and are surrounded by the nature of a tropical island.
Your trip includes a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner served in the dining room and the resort is easily able to accommodate special diets such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and so on.
At both resorts you will be taken out on dedicated snorkeling boats for our group. They are comfortable, offering shade, a restroom, snacks, and drinks. Each has a large ladder for easy entrance and exit from the water.

Ben (pictured with Nicole) is our friend and snorkeling trips partner. He and his team are based in the U.K. and have over 20 years of experience guiding in Asia and beyond. He has been running his own business since 2010 and is primarily offering guided snorkeling trips, but he started with diving. He began offering snorkeling specific trips because he was aware that snorkelers often get the short end of the stick when thrown in with divers. He and his team love the freedom and low stress of snorkeling, and are very aware of the different needs of snorkelers versus divers, in terms of the reef depth, and calm surface conditions needed.
experience going on one of his snorkeling trips we found it very well
organized, the guides were fantastic and very helpful, and the underwater experiences were exceptional. Snorkeling
groups really get the benefit of all of Ben and his guides' years of
experience in the water, and with different resorts and liveaboards.
of his trips are small groups of 12-18 guests, or with a similar ratio
of snorkelers to guides. And for where they visit, and how packed they
are with experiences, they are affordable.
His company is licensed and insured. Barring extreme circumstances they do not cancel trips, and all funds are held in a trust until the trip is completed giving you 100% financial security if they or any of their suppliers go out of business before the trip happens.
