Is a camera housing with vacuum useful for snorkelers? I am considering purchasing the Fantasea FG7X III R Housing for the Canon G7X Mark III camera, based on the recommendations on this website. I have snorkeled for many years but I am a novice at underwater photography. I do shallow freedives, generally no more than 10 – 15 feet deep.
After reading the housing manual, I am not clear that the purchase of the M16A Vacuum Valve and other associated components is needed for my style of freediving but I recognize (catastrophic) flooding might occur at any depth and that would be a bad day.
Have any of you used this housing, with or without the vacuum system?
Please share, as well, your overall impressions of the housing.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Absolutely. The vacuum is invaluable in preventing housing leaks even in shallow water. I have avoided two housing floods in my years doing underwater photography. It’s an ingenious addition.
