We took a boat out to snorkel near the bank in about 10 or so feet before the drop off. we saw nurse sharks, a large ray on the bottom, a few small fish in the reef. Then we went over to Pine Cay for a nice secluded walk on the sand bar which would be great of kids. To our thinking, it was mediocre snorkeling, but overall Provo was lacking for "shorkeling." Didn't go to Ft. George.

The health of the reef is rebounding from several very rough storms in past years and a dredging across the reef to make a deeper channel for larger boats - both quite unfortunate for the reef.

I do still see turtles, nurse or reef sharks, a variety of tropical fish, rays, lobsters and other critters. I never see eels on or about the reef. If you're lucky a dolphin or small pod will come play around the boat as we go to the reef or returning from the reef.

I stay at the Meridian Club and take advantage of the included daily snorkel trip out to the reef each morning I'm there. They select a different spot each day, sometimes the inner reef, sometimes the outer reef, and sometimes a drift snorkel.

The health of the coral and the amount of fans and sponges is less than the atolls of Belize but that is as expected because of much less ship traffic around Belize. But it was as good or better than the reef closer to Provo.

Fort George almost always has a current and there isn't a lot to see except the historical cannons that are mostly buried in the sand. Sometimes the shelling can be quite good there.
