Waterproof Camera Bag?

by Kirk

My wife and I love to snorkel, and my wife loves to take pictures while we do so. I noticed that you have a lot of suggestions when it comes to cameras for this purpose. I was wondering if you have ever tried using a regular digital camera placed inside a waterproof bag to shoot pictures. Typically, we buy waterproof disposable camera's, but it becomes pretty expensive if you take a lot of pictures. Any suggestions you could provide would be welcome.

Regards,

Kirk

Waterproof Camera Housing Bags
by: Galen

Hi Kirk.

Using a flexible bag style of underwater housing is a decent option to save some money. I myself have never done it for a couple of reasons. The first is that I change the settings on my cameras a lot underwater, and the bags are more difficult to do this with. The other issues with them tends to be longevity and water sealing. They also tend to be a bit more cumbersome because of all the extra material around the camera and the large area needed to make the seal. They also don't provide any physical protection for your camera, which I need (very often I end up banging the camera against something hard getting in and out of the water).

But if you don't feel like spending the money on a hard case why not give it a shot? Just make sure you get a good quality one that has a very good seal and a clear optical lens port (so you are not taking pictures through plastic). Try to get one made specifically for your camera so that it fits correctly and your camera does not move around inside it.

And after you try it let me know how it works. I would love to have a good review written up about using that type of case since I don't have much experience with it.

Camera waterproof cases
by: krashzmom

Galen may have covered this but I thought I'd tell you what I did. I was the same way with the waterproof cameras. I have 2 Sony cybershots and am not ready to get the waterproof version. I looked into the waterproof cases and they were a little expensive but when I looked at how much I was spending on waterproof cameras and developing them, it was worth it. I'm like Galen about the bags, they are very bulky and aggravating. I just googled my camera model and added waterproof case with it and I got lots of responses and different prices. I was suprised. I did a lot better on my second case than my first on Amazon and it was new. I was leary of used ones just because I didn't know how well the previous owner has taken care of it. It it a little tough changing settings but I picked my auto and video and marked it with a permanent marker. (It's not permanent but it does well per session)

Anyway, hope that gives you more to think about.
