Waiale'e Bay Snorkeling OK - Oahu

by Nickelsmum
(Portland, OR)

This beach has a nice easy sandy entry. It was relatively empty and seems like a nice quiet place to sit on sand if that is what you're looking for. I swam out beyond and around the island. The wave conditions (mid June, moderate wind) were tricky out on the reef. Less confident or competent swimmers should use caution. There are acres of broad flat reef, but surprisingly little sea life. My companion did swim with a big turtle which I did not see. I dragged my companions back to Shark's Cove just to increase my colorful fish quotient for the day.

We have never been able to get in the water here!

Thanks for sharing. We always thought that the topography looked interesting there, but the wind and waves were always too big for us to try it. Too bad about the lack of life. We found that to be the case a lot on Oahu on our recent trip. Shark's Cove and Three Tables are exceptions as they are protected from fishing.
