We have always used the skin tight style of rashguard for sun protection, but there are many of the loose style becoming available, that fit more like a t-shirt. They would certainly be easier to get on and off. Have you used one, and do you like it for snorkeling?

Respond at FB below, or email us with your experience. Thanks!

Yesterday I updated our snorkeling camera pages to include some exciting new cameras.

Some of the most interesting are on the waterproof digital camera page. There is a new Olympus TG-2 that now has blazing fast focus speeds, a real breakthrough, making it even better than the TG-1. And in an attempt to compete with Olympus, Pentax's new WG-3 has a fast F2.0 lens, which is great.

And on the compact snorkeling camera page there are also some new options. The Canon G15 is a great camera with it's F1.8 to F2.8 lens.

See all the new cameras at the link.

The new Pursuit 40 is just the right size for a couple of passports (we tried it), keys and a few other items. What makes it better than almost any other box we have seen is that it has better seals, a better closing latch, and belt loops at every corner. See the 40 at the link below.

I can't believe I never thought of doing this. But in the video at the link below from the Virgin Islands, Steve clamped a GoPro camera to a rock, turned on video, and then would place it in spots with lots of fish, and then leave for a number of minutes to let the fish come back and cruise by for some fantastic video. You could also set your camera to shoot interval still shots. You can do this with most any camera, but it might be easier with the tiny GoPro. Although, I just learned that the new GoPro remote control will not work underwater. There is more about the GoPro camera on our site here: http://www.tropicalsnorkeling.com/gopro-for-snorkeling.html

But until recently the only underwater housing for it cost $1000 to $1200 by itself. But Ikelite has released a housing that is comparatively cheap, at just $400, making the Sony RX-100 much more enticing. See it at the link below.

Nov 15, New GoPro Camera & Housing Is Superb - Twice As Sharp

GoPro just released a new version of their tiny little waterproof camera, called the GoPro Hero3. And while I had reservations about the old cameras for snorkeling, this new camera has solved most of the problems, and added some very enticing new features, like a waterproof remote. I am now itching to get one for snorkeling.

This version uses a glass lens that is twice as sharp as the old, and shoots 12mp stills and stunning video. And the housing it comes with does not have the soft corner problems of the old versions.

And that remote. I am going to put one of the cameras on an extendable monopod type pole, so that I can stick it down with the fish, and take pictures with the remote. Endless possibilities.

Read my review page at the link for more details about this cool new camera.

One of our site visitors shared with us that the Keauhou Beach Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii will close tomorrow. This older resort sits next to the popular snorkeling beach Kahalu'u. The resort is owned by Kamehameha Schools, and they plan to demolish the building and turn the area into a heritage and cultural park. The Big Island has been the most hurt by the economy and the resort had been in heavy loses for years.
