Live Underwater Webcam In Bonaire!

We are headed to Bonaire pretty soon and came across a post on Twitter about this underwater webcam in Bonaire. It is pretty fun to watch. When I was watching it some divers swam up and did some maintence on the camera. You can see a variety of fish cruise by. Select the quickest refresh rate option (lower left). They also have another underwater camera at the Dolphin Academy in Curacao ("More Views" in upper left). You can watch dolphins and a lots of different fish cruise by that one. Very fun. It is kind of addicting, waiting to see what shows up.

Well, she is only 500 miles away from her goal and will likely land in South America within a week.
Backscatter's Best Underwater Point & Shoot Cameras 2010

Backscatter.com just released their picks for the best underwater point and shoot cameras for 2010. Although their picks are more focused on cameras for divers, it was nice to see that they selected three of the same cameras that I have in my 2010 Best Snorkeling Cameras Buying Guide, the Olympus FE360 (the refurbished option for it's amazing price), the Canon SD940IS, and the Canon S90. Their selection criterion is interesting to read through. In particular I like their attention to the highlight warning feature available on the Sd940 and the Canon S90. In my selection I have much less focus on the ability to add accessory lenses and flashes because I do not feel they are as necessary for a snorkeler's camera setup.

Olympus just released two more Stylus Tough cameras, the Stylus Tough 8020 and 6020. They both offer longer zoom lenses than their previous models (8000 & 6000), more built in memory and 14gb instead of 12gb. The new 6020 now goes to 16 feet of depth instead of 10. And the 8020 has a new manometer for water pressure calculation.

Key West Snorkeling Suddenly Not So Bad

If you have read our Florida Keys snorkeling info, you will recall that besides some OK snorkeling at Dry Tortugas National Park, we don't recommend snorkeling in Key West at all. But very new are trips being run from Key West to Looe Key by the Sunny Day's catamaran company (they also run the Fast Cat to Dry Tortugas). This is good news, because Looe Key is a great snorkeling spot, and worth the long boat ride. But only do this if you don't have a car. Because it would be easier to just drive up to Big Pine Key and take a much shorter boat ride for less money.
