Snorkeling Milolii Boat Launch - Big Island Hawaii

by Ellen
(Sacramento, CA)

This is a small working fishing village on the south Kona coast of Big Island. Long, windy road down. My husband went diving from this fishing boat launch recently, and I snorkeled in the small bay. It was really quite good! TONS of yellow tang, convict fish, I do believe I saw an octopus change color under me. Slip into the water from one of the ladders the locals put down. Also, walk over to Honomalino Bay from Milolii Beach Park, there's snorkeling there too. You can also snorkel from your kayak in deeper water in the bay. None of this beats Two Steps however!

Great tip - Snorkeling Milolii
by: Galen & Nicole

Ellen, thanks for that great tip. We had just about forgot about Milolii and Honomalino Bay. We have yet to snorkel there (probably because of the drive). But after hearing your experience and some other things we have read it will have to go on our list of spots to visit when we go back to the Big Island. We have heard that dolphins frequent the area in the mornings, so that is a big plus.

We would also love to hear about your experiences at Honaunau (2-Steps) and anywhere else you have enjoyed.
