Snorkeling Ko Olina with Sea Turtles

We visited the lagoons in October 2009 and got to view a sea turtle in both lagoons 2 and 3. The view in lagoon 2 was not as great but my daughter did end up face to face with the turtle after losing sight of it and then turning to look for it, surprise! In lagoon 3 we had a very clear view of one from about 5 feet away underwater and then it surfaced again at about 5 feet away. My kids are 6 and 11 and were thrilled. We enjoyed the snorkeling here better then at Hanauma Bay, way to many people there and the surf was a little rough the day we visited.

Great Ko'Olina Coves snorkel story

Thanks for sharing. I bet that was pretty neat viewing the turtles up close in those small coves. We have never seen any turtles in the coves, so we will have to go back and try again!

2/10/11 ko olina snorkel

My wife and I just got out of the water at lagoon #2 which is the one not at the JW Marriott and not the one at the Marriott time share, but the one in between. I saw about 25 species of fish in good numbers and good sized and one green sea turtle I estimated at 2 feet across the carapace. He/she was feeding and allowed up to hang around and watch. No fear, unlike almost all the turtles I have been privileged to see while scuba diving. 2 days ago I went in the same lagoon when the waves were up and I could see nothing because the bottom was all stirred up and vis was about 2-3 feet.

Thanks for your post and info about this location. We are headed to Oahu in May for our first visit and first snorkeling experiences. We have put this location at the top of our list!

Snorkeled with my family in Lagoon 2 today. Incredible time as we say tons of different fish, an eel, and the sea turtle which all my kids touched and swam with for a good 5 minutes. Great spot!
