Snorkeling Bonaire For Two Weeks?

by Jim Jenkins
(Frederick, Md)

Hi Galen & Nicole

Recently downloaded your snorkel guide for Bonaire. I too love to travel and snorkel the worlds oceans. Bonaire has been on my destination list for a few years and I am planning a trip for April-May of 2011.

My Question is since the airlines are pretty much flying only weekend schedules is there enough to see and do (snorkeling) on Bonaire to justify a two week stay or can you see it all in one week. I will probably book a two week stay since I usually don't like to travel for any less time but still would value your opinion.

Thanks,

Jim Jenkins

Two Weeks!
by: Galen & Nicole

Hi Jim. We both think you should go ahead and do two weeks if you can. You could definitely hit the highlights in one week, of some of the best snorkel spots (weather permitting). But to really enjoy it all two weeks would be much better. You could easily spend at least two days snorkeling Lac Bay. And if you are a boater, and are willing to rent a boat you could easily spend another couple of days exploring the different spots around Klein Bonaire. Even without a boat we would recommend taking the taxi out a couple of times, or going with one of the tour groups once and the taxi once. So you can see that filling up a week is pretty easy.

Also, with two weeks you get to take some days off from snorkeling to just relax and do other things, which we always enjoy.

Another good reason to take two weeks is for weather reasons. What happens if you encounter some bad weather, and half of your week you can't snorkel?

Another good reason for two weeks is cruise ships. You can plan better where you want to snorkel based on what days the cruise ships are in town to avoid the crowds.

Make sure and check out this great post by Fran who has experience in Bonaire.

Have a great time and thanks for your question. Make sure and share your experiences when you come back. We miss Bonaire already!
