Snorkeling Big Island Kahalu'u Beach Park

Turtles climbing on sunning spot
Looking at Angel fish from bar
We went to the Big Island a few years ago and stayed at Outrigger Keahou bay. I had researched our options and Kahalu'u Beach had the best snorkeling rating on the island in one of my books. The Outrigger is right next to this park. There was a path over to the park and a restaurant/grill on the way. The coolest part of this is the Outrigger hangs over the ocean for a short distance and we had an oceanfront room. It's not a fancy place but it was awesome to look off of our balcony down into the water. The first night we looked down and saw an eel. There were a lot of big rocks directly out from the hotel and every day there were about 6-8 turtles sunning on the rocks. The park itself had great snorkeling too. I put a picture of one of the turtles I got caught in the surf with. He was way under me and the surf got up a little and both of us were moving toward the shore (sideways) and neither of us were doing a very good job. We just floated in and out for a while and I finally got to shore and he got to his intended destination I hope. Had a great time on the island but didn't care much for the overabundance of rocks.
