Snorkeling at Wailea Beach - Maui

by John
(Alameda, CA)

Wailea Beach @ Four Seasons Resort-

Nothing worth mentioning directly out from the beach. We always park in the public lot between the Grand Wailea and the 4 Seasons. When we get to the beach we walk all the way to the south end of the beach where there's nice shade from a rock cliff.

Swim to the south out on the point you can see in the photo just below the condos with the red roofs. There is a nice variety of fish, turtles, coral formations. I've seen many varieties of triggerfish, butterfly fish, wrasses, tang, ulua, etc. here. Bring a good fish ID guide. Be a little cautious of the wave action off the point, but all in all this is a very nice spot. I've gotten some very nice photos of turtles at this here. We've been at this beach from late October through early March - always a good spot.

Don't miss lunch in the open air restaurant of the Four Seasons overlooking the beach Ferraro's. Great calamari, wonderful service. They are equally attentive to guests of the hotel or people coming up from the beach just for lunch. Ferraro's is also a terrific spot to have a dinner at sunset.
