Snorkel Alaska, Who woulda thunk it?

by Susan
(Columbia, SC)

This is not really a snorkeling story but pretty close. For one, I didn't know people snorkeled in Alaska but found out differently when I went. I like tropical but when my mother in law invited me to go (expenses paid) as her caregiver on an Alaskan cruise, I could hardly refuse. (Yes, I love my mother in law) Anyways, it wasn't cold there but I wasn't going to snorkel just because it sounded cold. :) We went on a whale cruise however and it was unbelievable. Even the leaders of the crew were amazed. I had been on a few before and only saw a whale shark (which was great but not a whale). There were several whales out but one in particular just kept flapping it's fin and breaching, but they were all joining in. At first they said it may be aggressive behavior but then after checking them out found they were basically just enjoying the warm day. I got so many videos of them and it was so awesome. I had seen the humpbacks in Maui in March so that just made it better. Not a fish story but a whales tale. LOL.
