Sand Snorkel on Maui

OK, so here on Maui and probably much of the other Hawaiian Islands as well, we've had a LOT of wind and rain lately. Not just rain but sideways blowing pouring down rain! Got in Sunday, had one of those days Monday, then yesterday after the very successful whale watch we thought we'd try to get in the water for a snorkel at Kamaole II Beach in Kihei, where we are staying.

We could see the sand in the surf, kicked up by the storm, since first light all along the west coast. Undaunted, we suit up and manage a smooth beach entry to the right of the rock promontory. Visibility 0! heads poking up we make our way around the rocks, see some coral and a few fish through the sand but abandon our effort on the other side. Bummer!

We're in the midst of another storm this morning. Not sure if we will get ANY snorkeling in this trip!!!! So bummed.

Keep us informed
by: Susan

Keep us up to date please. I'm getting a little worried about the weather. We leave for Maui Jan. 29 and I just hope all the weather has calmed down. Glad you got in a whale watch. I'm really looking forward to that myself. We've had 2 snows since Christmas (yes, I'm in the south.) but hasn't been as bad as others here. I reallllly want to snorkel. Good luck and be safe.

Bummer!

That sucks! Sorry to hear your snorkeling is taking a hit. That has happened to us more than once. My suggestion? Do something else for fun, and forget about it. Check out some other sights, and keep enjoying your trip. Have you explored 'Iao Valley State Park yet?
