Oahu Snorkeling Guide
Waiale'e Beach Park

This sweet little park is supposed to offer some great Oahu snorkeling. Unfortunately we have not had the right weather to get in the water. When we have tried it has been a little too windy and wavy for our tastes. Standing on the shore we kept asking ourselves, should we do it? Nope!

But, even though we have not yet snorkeled here (it is on our list of locations to come back to), there is nothing stopping you from checking it out and leaving your own report here.

So here is what we have seen and heard about the snorkeling at Waiale'e. From the parking lot you can see a small island down to the left. The best snorkeling is supposed to be out to this island (a bit of a swim), and to the right hand side, and if the water is very calm, around the back side of the same island.

If you walk down the beach to the left about 1/3 of the ways before the end, there is a nice non-rocky entrance over sand. Swim directly out to the right hand side from there. Be aware of any possible currents.

There are porta-potties available at this park and plenty of shade.

Share your waiale'e snorkeling experience.

Driving Directions - Waiale'e Beach Park
Oahu Snorkeling

Driving Directions to Waiale'e Beach Park from Waikiki

You can choose to drive up the east side of the island or up the middle of the island to reach the north shore. To reach Hwy 83 on the east side heading north, you need to get on Hwy H-1 westbound then take one of the highways that crosses the Ko'olau Mountains, Hwy 61 (Pali Hwy), Hwy63 (Likelike Hwy), or Hwy H-3. When you come to the intersection with Hwy 83 (Kahekili Hwy), turn left, heading north. Alternately, to reach Hwy H-2 that leads to Hwy 99 up through the middle of the island, get on Hwy H-1 heading westbound until you reach the intersection with Hwy H-2 and head north. Hwy H-2 will turn into Hwy 99 that you follow until it comes to Hwy 83 again near Hale'iwa. Waiale'e Beach Park is about two miles towards Hale'iwa on Hwy 83 from the Turtle Bay Resort turn; but northeast of Sunset Beach also by about 2 miles. It is marked only by a rock wall that borders the road and encloses the parking lot. The wall has two breaks: the northern one is the entrance and the southern the exit.
