Oahu Snorkeling Guide Kokololio Beach Park
This is yet another Oahu snorkeling spot on the east side that has not cooperated weather-wise for us to be able to snorkel it. We came too late in the year, and the winds were kicking up. Summer would be the best time to try this out.

Kokololio Beach Park is a huge area with tons of trees, park facilities and parking, and is a local family favorite on the weekends.

Oahu Snorkeling
We have heard that there is some interesting snorkeling here that may be best for more experienced snorkelers because of the currents involved.
In the middle of this big park there is a dividing wall that cuts the park in half. If you follow that wall out to the beach, head a little to the right, and then swim out a short distance you will most likely find yourself in a current that runs from right to left. We have heard that you can let the current pull you along a reef wall that has a good number of fish to see. Then when you have been pulled past the wall you swim back into shore on the north side. Rinse and repeat.
Now, we have not yet done this ourselves, and the currents may be stronger then we heard, so enter at you own risk if you want to explore this spot. If you do it, let us know what it is like
here.
There are full facilities here including restrooms, water, picnic tables, fire pits, showers, shade and camping by permit.
Driving Directions - Kokololio Beach Park
Oahu Snorkeling
Driving Directions to Kokololio Beach Park from Waikiki
Getting on H-1 from Waikiki can be challenging! Here's a good way to get on heading west towards the middle of the island. Get on Kalakaua Ave (the one way beachfront main drag). You will be heading southeast. Turn left on Kapahulu Ave and keep on it and you will go under H-1. Veer to the left on Waialae Ave and shortly on the right you will see an on ramp for H-1 West. To reach Hwy 83 on the east side heading north, you need to take one of the highways that crosses the Ko'olau Mountains, Hwy 61 (Pali Hwy), Hwy63 (Likelike Hwy), or Hwy H-3. When you come to the intersection with Hwy 83 (Kahekili Hwy), turn left, heading north. Follow Hwy 83 past Punalu'u and Hau'ula until you reach the park. There is a large parking lot.
OK - now check out the first of the west side snorkeling locations.
