Oahu Snorkeling Guide
Kahala Beach

Occasionally we will post an Oahu snorkeling spot that we have not actually gotten into the water at, either because of bad weather or a lazy attitude on the day we visited it!

This location was recommended to us as a great spot for super shallow snorkeling to get up close and personal with immature fish and other small reef creatures.

But it was a pretty grey day and wavy when we were there and we did not try it out. Maybe you have? Share your story here.

The snorkeling is supposed to be shallow, getting gradually deeper the further out you go to the reef. To us it looked a little too shallow. And at high tide there was not beach at all. But maybe on a super calm day it would work? Just don't go touching the reef, for your own safety and that of the reef.

There are no facilities available here.

Driving Directions - Kahala Beach
Oahu Snorkeling

Driving Directions to Kahala Beach from Waikiki

Heading southeast on Kalakaua Ave (one-way only in that direction), pass all of the resorts and don't veer left onto Monsarrat Ave, instead continue straight on Kalakaua Ave, you drive through Kapiolani Park and when this turns left and you come to a stop sign, turn right onto Diamond Head Rd. Follow Diamond Head Rd over the hill and when there is a 3-way intersection with Diamond Head Rd turning left, go straight on Kahala Ave. Then, keep your eyes out for Royal Pl on your right. After that, Elepaio St will veer off to the left. Park here and find the public beach access trail.

Now explore famous Hanauma Bay
