Maui Snorkeling Guide Oneuli Beach (Black Sand Beach)
Access to this black sand Maui snorkeling beach is by a dirt road. But it is not a very long road, and most cars should be able to drive it just fine.

This is a small, pretty beach that has black sand mixed with some coral. It is popular with locals and some shore divers, and it offers some very good snorkeling when it is calm.

This beach along with Big Beach and Little Beach are now part of Makena State Park, not to be confused with Makena Beach up the road.

The snorkeling from Oneuli Beach (Black Sand Beach), is on the left hand side. We enter the water at the end of the beach and snorkel along the rocky shore around the point. But only do this when it is calm, and watch out for currents.
The water is normally kind of murky close to shore, but gets better farther out. You will find some excellent coral formations, tons of fish and lots of turtles.
If you were to keep swimming all the way around the point (a long swim), you would come to Little Beach, where clothing is optional (so don't be surprised at the surprises).
