Maui Snorkeling Guide
Maluaka Beach (Makena - Maui Prince)

This Maui snorkeling beach is located in front of the Maui Prince Hotel.

It is a beauty of a beach, and we have enjoyed some very good snorkeling here.

There is a public parking lot that is not very big, so you will probably need to come early to get a spot, on weekends at least.

Where do you snorkel? You can probably guess, it is just like the other beaches on this coast. We snorkeled at the south end of the beach, out in front of the golf course, towards Black Beach Point. We found it a bit cloudy, and not a lot of fish close to the beach, but it got much more clear the further we snorkeled around the point. And at one point the coral became very good, tons of it and lots of interesting colors. We also came across many more fish and lots of turtles the further we swam.

Like all the beaches along this side of the island, it is exposed, and afternoon winds make it not so fun or safe. So go when it is calm in the mornings.

Driving Directions to Maluaka/Makena Beach from Kihei

Head south on S Kihei Rd. Towards the end of the road, there is an intersection where you can veer left onto Okolani Dr, do this and go to the intersection with Wailea Alanui Dr and turn right. Follow this through the big intersection with Wailea Iki Dr near The Shops at Wailea. Keep driving through the intersection with Kaukahi St, the road you are on is now called Makena Alanui Rd. You will pass Makena Rd twice on your right and the entrance to the Maui Prince Hotel on the right as well. The beach fronts the Maui Prince, but it is accessed past it by turning right on another Makena Rd and parking towards the end and walking a short distance to the beach.
