Maui Snorkeling Guide Keawakapu Beach
This is a gorgeous Maui snorkeling beach that much like the other beaches along this coast has good snorkeling at the rocky points at each end. And the beach is wonderful, with a gentle slope into the sea, and velvety sand.

There are a couple of different entrances to this beach. On the north, you share the beach with some big resorts. But further south on the beach it is mostly high end private homes, and so this area of the beach is generally not very crowded. There is a second parking area all the way to the south that has bathrooms and a shower.

Like we said above, the snorkeling here is just like at the other beaches in the area. Head to the ends, and explore the rocky points. It is those points where the corals and sea life hang out. And like the other areas, we are cautious here because this is pretty open ocean. This is not a protected bay. So we watch out for surge, currents, and breaking waves when we are getting in and out.
To the north, the snorkeling in front of the condos is pretty good, with coral, lots of fish, and we have seen many turtles there.
The snorkeling on the south is better though. We snorkel around the lava rock point that separates Keawakapu Beach from Makapu Beach. There is lots of coral here, and often turtles.
The pictures above are from the north area, and below the south.

Driving Directions to Keawakapu Beach from Kihei
This beach is in Kiehi along S Kihei Rd. There are two parking lots accessing two different snorkeling areas on Keawakapu Beach. The northern one is south of Kama'ole Beach III past Ala Koa St on the left. Park on the right in the big lot next to the Best Western and walk through the resort to the beach. The southern parking area is at the very end of S Kihei Rd, don't veer left onto Okolani Dr, but continue straight and follow the road to the end and it will turn into a parking lot to the right.
