Maui Snorkeling Guide Ali'i Kahekili Beach Park
This was possibly the biggest Maui snorkeling surprise of our last trip. What a find! Ali'i Kahekili Beach Park and Airport Beach are pretty much the same beach. It is just one long strip extending from Kahekili north to where Airport Beach is.

The best snorkeling and parking and facilities are at Kahekili, so that is where we parked.

Maui Snorkeling
We loved the snorkeling here. Straight out from the pavilion we entered the water and found ourselves in a wonderland of great corals, tons of sea life, and a variety of interesting depths.
The reef runs close to shore, and keeps on heading north for a long ways. You can choose your own depth, because the reef gets gradually deeper the further out you go.
We viewed tons of fish, small turtles, eels and a very nice variety of corals. We swam in deeper waters north, and then came back over shallower corals on the way back.

Here is a video of a lazy turtle soaring around underwater, teaching lesson on taking it easy!

There are many facilities available at this nice snorkeling park including lots of shade, a pavilion, restrooms, picnic tables, showers, BBQ pits and grass to lie on.

Maui Snorkeling
Driving Directions to Kahekili Beach Park (Airport Beach/Keka'a/North Beach) from Kihei
In Kihei get on Hwy 31 (Piilani Hwy) or S Kihei Rd heading north. When you reach the intersection with Hwy 311 (Mokulele Hwy) and Hwy 310 (N Kihei Rd) turn onto Hwy 310 (N Kihei Rd) and follow to the next intersection with Hwy 30 (Honoapiilani Hwy) and turn left, heading initially south. This road is what you will follow halfway around west Maui. You will pass by Lahaina and just past Kaanapali and the 25 mile marker turn left on Kai Ala Dr (Puukolii St is on the right). The large parking lot is obvious.
