Kauai Snorkeling Guide
Kiahuna Beach

We found some good Kauai snorkeling at Kiahuna Beach. We found lots of fish and some pretty interesting underwater topography.

This beautiful curved, steep beach, sits in front of the Kiahuna Plantation Resort and the Sheraton. So it is also called Kiahuna Beach, or Sheraton Beach.

Even behind the protection of an offshore reef, we have found this spot to be fairly surgy. Maybe that is because the beach is pretty steep, while still having shallow areas in the bay?

We like to swim out from the center of the beach. There is nice long shallow reef that we follow out. All along this reef, and further out, there are a good number of fish and some beautiful corals.

We have found it to be pretty cloudy close to shore, but it tends to clear up nicely as we swim out further, a very common experience on Kauai.

You can also explore the rocky shoreline along the right hand side of the beach (just make sure it is not to surgy when you are over the rocks). We have watched turtles feed along the right hand side.

You can get a sense for how many fish are in this area in the video below.

Driving Directions - Kiahuna Beach from Hwy 50 intersection with Hwy 520
Kauai Snorkeling

From Hwy 50 (Kaumuali'i Hwy) head south on Hwy 520 (Maluhia Rd) follow this through Koloa, where you will turn right and then left to stay on Hwy 520 (which is now Po'ipu Rd). Follow Po'ipu Rd past the intersection with Lawa'i Rd around the bend to the left just until you reach Kapili Rd and turn right on Hoonani Rd. Quickly on the right is a parking lot with a path along the water in front of the resort to walk to the beach. If you continue driving on Hoonani Rd, to the end, there is another, closer parking area to the beach, if you can find parking.
