First time snorkeling - Was it really 18 years ago?

My sister and I joined some friends on a trip to Maui back in November 1992. My friends were avid divers and determined to get us into the water.
Early one morning we headed South to Makena and hiked over a daunting volcanic cinder cone to a small cove that was completely deserted. Here we donned some shabby equipment that didn't fit very well and plunged in. The drop off was very gradual, which was good because my mask leaked like crazy (mustache problem).
I'm sure we saw some fish, because we were inspired to head over to Snorkel Bob's and rent some gear that fit (and had optical correction, so I could see). But the more memorable eye opener was getting out of the water: Maui's Little Beach is unofficially clothing optional.
Anyone reading this site will be WAY better prepared than I was on my first trip to Maui. Good luck and enjoy!
