First time Snorkeling at Cozumel?

by Darryl
(Brooks, Ab. Can.)

I just recieved my snorkel gear and am very excited about my trip to Cozumel in April. I have not snorkeled alot and have never been to Mexico, so I was wondering if you have an opinion of Snorkel tours versus on your own excursions. Thanks

Snorkeling Cozumel
by: Galen & Nicole

Darryl. We are planning on snorkeling Cozumel for our first time later this summer, so we can't give you first hand experience yet. (Hopefully you will give us your insights when you get back).

This website will help you with planning.

If you don't have much snorkeling experience going with a boat tour can be comforting and safer. But one of the reasons we are excited about Cozumel is because almost everything good can be accessed from the beach. We greatly prefer to do it this way, because you don't have to pay for boat tours, or do things on their schedule.

That said, get some local feedback about what areas are safe, and what have currents. Always go with a partner, and read my safety tips here.

Does anyone else who has snorkeled Cozumel want to chime in?

Reef Friendly Sunscreen For Cozumel
by: Galen & Nicole

I forgot to mention that Cozumel is pretty strict about what types of sunscreen you use. See this page for more info. We just decided we will not be testing Mexitan in Bonaire, but maybe you can test it and give us a report since that is a common reef friendly sunscreen used in Cozumel.
