Canon D10 For Snorkeling

Well, even though I've always been a Sony Cybershot type I got a Canon D10. I HOPE to use it underwater 2 weeks from now if the weather has cleared up in Maui. If it doesn't I guess I can still take pictures of the clouds on Haleakala or the rainforest on the way to Hana. The first difference I noticed was it came on so fast it startled me. I'm trying to find time to read the guide before we leave but it may be part of my flight material, along with experimenting. I was reading your notes on "white balance" and the s button on the s90. Is there such a thing on the D10? It has an underwater setting which I hope works well.

Oh, and photoshop is amazing. I used it on that picture I sent to you a few months ago that neither of us could identify. I'm sending it in hopes that now it is clearer and someone will know what it is. It looks something like a shrimp now. Let me know if anyone knows. I'm hoping with the new camara I'll be able to see what I'm taking pictures of and not have these surprises in my pictures. It's a little un-nerving.

Canon D10

Susan. First, congrats on your Canon D10 purchase. I think you will enjoy it. Take good care of those seals on the doors, and don't bang into them in the water and you should be fine. I don't think the camera has the adjustable "s" button like my D90, but you may be able to program another button on it to allow for quick white balance adjustments. You will need to read your manual to discover that.

As for your picture, I am pretty sure it is a Juvenile Rockmover Wrasse.

Here is another picture for comparison.

Thank you..Thank you!! I have looked in your guide and a fish guide I had and neither David nor I could find anything like it. Last time the picture was too cloudy to identify if you remember but Photoshop cleared it up. I LOVE THAT PROGRAM! I'm trying to learn about it too and getting info overload so will wait until I come home with my new D10 pics. 8) I will be careful with the seals and I read about the white balance and there isn't a button but it looks pretty simple if I can just remember how in the water.

Thanks again for your help and I'm glad to know what that critter is. I do hope I don't have any more surprises since I got the new camera. I'm afraid one of those critters may be dangerous. Oh, and I can spell camera, I was just having a bad day. Will talk to you guys with pictures when I get back and let you know for sure about the snorkel.
