Big Island Snorkeling Guide
La'aloa (White Sands Beach)

This Big Island Snorkeling spot is popular La'Aloa Bay Beach. It has many different names that tend to refer to the fact that the sand can quickly disappear from it. Several of these names also happen to be the names of close by condos. White Sands Village condos are across the street, and Magic Sands condos are also close by. It is also sometimes called Disappearing Sands Beach and Vanishing Sands Beach. This is not a stellar snorkel beach, but has potential when calm.

This beach is very popular with locals and is often pretty busy.

Site Snorkeling Details - La'aloa (White Sands, Magic Sands) - Big Island Snorkeling

This is a popular boogie boarding and body boarding beach and generally it is not the best snorkeling location because of the sea conditions. There is almost always a breaking surf on this beach. But when it is calm, there is good snorkeling around the north (right hand) side in front of the restaurant Jameson's By The Sea. There are many fish in this area and some interesting underwater topography.

Big Island Snorkeling

Directions to La'aloa / White Sands Beach Park from Kailua Kona

Drive south on Alii Drive for almost 4 miles. La'aloa Beach Park is well marked and is near both White Sands Village and Magic Sands condos. If you see the 4 mile marker you've driven too far.
