Big Island Snorkeling Guide Kealakekua Bay
Kealakekua Bay is a Big Island Snorkeling mecca, a marine life conservation district, and a historical park. Here we have enjoyed the best snorkeling on the island, swam with spinner dolphins and taken a wonderful catamaran boat trip.
We love this bay. We had the good fortune of house sitting right next to the bay for two months. Tough life, yes we know.

Kealeakekua Bay offers three different wonderful snorkeling experiences.
1. Snorkeling Captain Cook Monument
On the far north of the bay is the Captain Cook Monument, and the coral and water clarity here is possibly the best snorkeling available on the Big Island. This is a very popular boat tour location, and our most recent
sailboat snorkeling tour
was a true highlight of our last trip. There are actually three different ways to get to this location that we have tried.
2. Swim with Spinner Dolphins off Napoopoo Beach
Take this scenic drive into the valley and swim in the morning with a pod of spinner dolphins. This is not to be missed.
3.Snorkel from Lovely Manini Park
This tiny little unknown park on the south end of Kealakeua Bay offers some enjoyable snorkeling with great views of the bay.
And the final highlight at Kealakekua? Before or after your snorkeling adventures don't miss our favorite breakfast joint in all of the Hawaii Islands, with a stunning view overlooking the bay, fantastic Kona coffee and great food - The Coffee Shack.
If you plan on snorkeling at Kealakeua and are looking for a nice place to stay that is close, we can easily recommend Mary & Keith's vacation rental OP Hale.
The vacation rental is clean, spacious, and in a pleasant setting. Mary & Keith are wonderful hosts who are outdoor enthusiasts.
