Best Snorkeling in Maui?
Look No Further!

Searching for the best snorkeling in Maui? Try snorkeling Po'olenalena Beach for one of our top ranked spots on the island. It has tons of turtles, amazing coral canyons and lots of fish.

Also check out the right side of the bay at Kapalua Beach for another highly ranked snorkeling spot. You'll find huge coral heads, fish and turtles.

Kahekili Beach is one more location that ranks as one of the best spots to snorkel on Maui. With a reef that parallels the shoreline, access is easy and you'll find coral, turtles and fish.

How did we choose the spots we consider to be the best snorkeling in Maui? Well, we came up with a list of things we like to see when we go snorkeling, and evaluated the locations based on what we saw there. These are the things we like to see while snorkeling:

  • Lots of fish
  • A healthy coral reef environment
  • Interesting topography
  • Clear water
  • Appropriate depths for snorkelers
  • Reasonably safe conditions and water entrance

If we see all or most of the above things at a snorkel spot, we rank it highly. We share many more highly ranked snorkel spots in our Maui Snorkeling Guide eBook than are on this website, so if you want to snorkel all of the best in Maui snorkeling spots you will want our guide for your trip.

Honolua Bay is commonly acclaimed as Maui's best snorkeling spot. While it is still quite a good one, it is showing the effects of very high traffic, and we believe you can find better snorkeling on the island and avoid the crowds at the same time.

The snorkeling at Black Rock is legendary and many sources site it as some of the best on the island. We don't rank it as highly due to it's lack of healthy coral reef, it's exposure and the crowds.

We hope you enjoy snorkeling Maui!
